City Council approves purchase of new fire engine for North Logan

NORTH LOGAN — Residents may see a new fire engine on the streets of North Logan in the near future. The City Council approved a $364,784 bid from Rosenbauer for a fire engine.

Cat dies in RV park fire; trailer renter charged with arson

LOGAN—A 40-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fire Tuesday morning that destroyed a trailer in a local RV Park. The fire was reported Tuesday at approximately 10:30 a.m. at Riverside RV Park, at 447 W. 1700 South, Logan police say. Officers and firefighters arrived to find the fifth-wheel ablaze, with the renter, Christian Fitting, standing in front watching, police said.



Fate of Cherry Peak ski area appeal still undecided

LOGAN—Almost every seat in the historic Cache County Courthouse was filled Thursday evening as the Cache County Board of Adjustments addressed an appeal to deny a conditional use permit for the Cherry Peak Ski Area in Richmond. And after representatives from the appellants and the developers made their arguments, the meeting resulted in a continuance in order for the board to further review the controversial issue.

Wellsville City Council looks for solutions to sidewalk problems

WELLSVILLE — The City Council faced issues regarding city ordinances and sidewalks Wednesday, and voted 3-1 to defer sidewalk construction in a subdivision located at 200 West and 450 South. “We already have plenty of sidewalks that lead to nowhere,” Councilman Colin Harrison said. “I don’t see the point of that.”

Scottish Highland Games: A different kind of fling in Richmond

RICHMOND — Scottish games involving feats of strength will be coming to Richmond in September. Wesley Allen, from Smithfield, said he wants to use a Richmond baseball diamond for the Scottish Highland Games, which mostly involve throwing heavy objects such as hammers and wooden poles.

Trenton youth pleads guilty to December robbery of convenience store

LOGAN—Ahiven Melendez, Trenton, pleaded guilty in 1st District Court to aggravated robbery and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement during his pretrial conference March 20. Melendez is a 17-year-old being tried as an adult.

Logan man arrested on suspicion of felony theft

LOGAN–A theft at Smith’s Marketplace on March 21 resulted in the arrest of a Logan man on suspicion of third-degree felony theft. Logan City Police responded to Smith’s Marketplace, 750 N. Main, Wednesday afternoon after the store’s Loss Prevention department reported two adults stealing a phone charger.

TV news professor pushes student journalists to real-world standards March 25th, 2012

LOGAN—As a police scanner quietly fizzes and mutters in the background, students roll in and the Aggie TV News class begins. But the discussion lasts only a moment as the instructor suddenly stops in mid-sentence to listen to the scanner. The class quiets and does the same. After a moment, he resumes talking to the TV news staff as if nothing had happened. “Just seeing if we’ll be taking a field trip,” he says.

USU Eastern student journalists win 11 Utah Press awards

PRICE—In its second year of membership in the Utah Press Association, USU Eastern’s Eagle student newspaper continued to add accolades to its “wall of fame” as the staff brought home four first-place awards, two second-place awards and five third-place awards at the annual winter convention in Springville Saturday night.
